I opened The Barbara Casey Literary Agency in 1995 and, on a very select basis, I represent writers in the areas of both fiction and nonfiction for adults and children. I only work with traditional, royalty-paying publishers, including independent publishers as well as major publishers. Anyone interested in this service should query The Barbara Casey Literary Agency first before sending a manuscript for consideration.

If I accept a manuscript or portfolio to represent, I write all of the necessary cover letters, outlines and/or synopses, provide editing where necessary at no charge, and reproduce the necessary copies of artwork when applicable to accompany the submission.

I charge no up-front fees, and The Barbara Casey Literary Agency is conducted in accordance with the AAR (Association of Authors' Representatives) Guidelines and Canon of Ethics. Once the work is accepted for publication, I receive an agency commission of 20 percent of all royalties and/or flat payments (whichever the publisher and the writer/illustrator agree to in their contract).

Submissions

Send me an e-mail query that includes the title, word count, type of work (fiction or nonfiction; adult, children's), brief synopsis, and author's bio. If I am interested, I will request that the completed manuscript along with any marketing ideas you have for the project be mailed to me on either a diskette (Microsoft Word document) or a CD. Please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you want your materials returned.
